Grand final teams

21 Sep 2018 by Dale McCahon

Morwell is the only place to be this Saturday, as Leongatha FNC have three sides who have made it through to their Gippsland League 2018 Grand Finals.

The action commences at 8.30 in the morning when our mighty U13 girls take on the undefeated Sale side. The girls have worked so hard and continued to improve throughout the year, to well and truly earn their spot in the Grand Final and a real chance of winning their first premiership with the Parrots. Although it is an early start, the girls would love to have as much Green and Gold support as possible.

The Reserves are the next team to play, when we take on the undefeated Maffra side. We only have to look back to last year to see that the underdog has every chance to defeat the top side in a Grand Final. Morwell last year took the same path as we have this year, from the elimination final through to the Grand Final. With the Senior team and Reserves team having no injuries, both teams are the strongest we have fielded for the year. Unfortunately, as in every Grand Final, there are a few lads who have missed out on a game, but the players on the ground will be aiming to celebrate a premiership with them.

The Seniors as stated are at full strength, and an unchanged 22 players have been selected from the team that defeated Maffra two weeks ago in the 2nd Semi Final. Maffra will be hurting from that heavy defeat and are far too strong a team to allow us the latitude they did in the second half of that game. So, for the third straight season of the Gippsland League, it is Leongatha V Maffra with the score currently one premiership apiece. Hopefully we can go back to back for the first time since joining the Latrobe Valley / Gippsland League.

A call for some assistance please. Volunteers don’t become redundant just because it is GF day. We have a rostered slot on the canteen at Morwell, and fortunately it fits in pretty nicely between the U13 netball and Reserves Football. Please consider filling this time in by helping out in the canteen. See Christine Mackie or Rob Van Rooy to volunteer some time.

See you at the game, and then back at the Aviary social rooms to hopefully celebrate some premierships.

Best of luck to all Parrots involved in the Grand Finals.

Victory Through Harmony.
